The land of forests, moors and sand drifts

From flowering orchards in the Betuwe to the river landscape of the Land of Maas and Waal, nature is never far away in Gelderland. National Park De Hoge Veluwe is perhaps the most beautiful nature reserve in the Netherlands. Discover forests, heaths and sand drifts during a varied walking or cycling trip. With a bit of luck, you might even spot the Dutch big five here! Also in National Park Veluwezoom, the oldest National Park in the Netherlands, you can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. With its many different hiking trails, this nature reserve east of Arnhem is a walhalla for hiking enthusiasts. Those who thought that rolling countryside is only to be found in the province of Limburg are wrong. The region of Montferland is located in Achterhoek in Gelderland. This area consists of several hills covered with forests, meadows and fields.

Here you will experience a varied holiday anyway, as this province has something for everyone.

Vibrant cities

Do you like to seek out the cosiness of the city during your holiday? No problem, because in Gelderland you can find lots of nice cities! Arnhem, for example. Shop at unique boutiques and designer shops in the 7 Streets and the Fashion Quarter, stroll through beautiful Park Sonsbeek or grab a sunny terrace in the atmospheric city centre. Did you know you can even take a tour under the streets of Arnhem? Through a network of historic cellars you will learn all about the city's history. Nijmegen should not be missed during a holiday in Gelderland either. This bustling student city on the river Waal is the beating heart of the Nijmegen Marches every year. And what about the photogenic Hanseatic cities Doesburg and Elburg? These two pearls of Gelderland flourished centuries ago as important trading towns.
