Here on the coast

Zeeland is an ultimate beach destination. With 650 kilometres of coastline, sun worshippers and water sports enthusiasts will get their money's worth here anyway. The choice of beautiful beaches is vast. Watch a golden sunset in Catszand, stroll along the beach pavilions of Westenschouwen or enjoy the fashionable atmosphere of Domburg. The North Sea is inextricably linked to the Delta Works. These imposing structures are the Netherlands' largest defence system against high water. A visit to the most famous, the Oosterscheldekering, is highly recommended. You can do so at Deltapark Neeltje Jans, where you will learn all about the flood disaster and the construction of this storm surge barrier.

The Oosterschelde is the largest and most water-rich National Park in the Netherlands.

Authentic towns and villages

Historical monuments, cobbled streets and Zeeland's culture: a cosy town or picturesque village is never far away. Visit Middelburg, for example. Stroll through the old town centre full of beautiful buildings, grab a cosy terrace or go shopping. The beautiful harbour town of Veere is also well worth a visit. In this photogenic village on the Veerse Meer, history is literally in the streets. Or visit the harbour, the old Town Hall and the Grote Markt in charming Goes.

Natural Zeeland

Everyone knows the beaches, but did you know that Zeeland also has plenty of greenery? It doesn't get much greener than the Zak van Zuid-Beveland, one of the oldest polder landscapes in the Netherlands. The flowery dykes, formed by centuries of fighting the water, make it a beautiful cycling and walking area. The Oosterschelde is the largest and most water-rich National Park in the Netherlands. A unique area that has many faces thanks to a mix of tides, fresh and salt water and a rich flora and fauna. At low tide, you can spot many bird species living on and around the mud flats. This area is also surprisingly beautiful under water. The colourful underwater world is popular with divers for good reason.

Something for everyone

Zeeland is incredibly versatile. For example, every year Zeeland is the setting for the vibrant Concert at Sea, where the best artists from the Netherlands and abroad perform. Another must-see is Slot Haamstede, which takes you back to the 17th century. Zeeland also has a lot to offer on the culinary front. Did you know that there are many good restaurants here? Some of them even have a Michelin star. Take a ride on the Goes-Borsele steam train or take a day trip to bustling cities such as Rotterdam, Breda and Antwerp, which can be reached within an hour.
